Manzanillo, Mexico, June 2, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erik Haddock claimed their first title of the season at NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit with a victory over Mexicans Juan Revuelta and Ricardo Galindo at San Pedrito Beach on Sunday.

More than 3,000 spectators watched the 21-12, 21-14 victory of the Puerto Rican duo.

“We like to play against the home crowd,” Haddock said following their fourth podium of the season (one silver and two bronze medals). “It doesn’t affect us anymore and we were pretty confident going into the match.”

“It is part of our process towards the Central American and Caribbean Games later this year,” Rodriguez added after his seventh career gold medal and fourth with Haddock as partner.

Canadians Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter won the bronze medal with a 21-17, 21-17 victory over Derek Olson and Kevin McColloch of United States.

In the women’s portion, Canadians Melissa Humana and Taylor Pishcke picked up their gold medal with thrilling victory against USA’s Kendra Vanzwieten and Allison Daley 21-18, 15-21, 15-13.

“The three-set win was huge,” Pishcke said. “We played very well and I think the crowd enjoyed it.”

“I liked here a lot, the atmosphere, the weather, the court and the people,” Humana commented. “It was also great that my father and Taylor’s dad were here to see us.”

Heather Hughes and Christal Engle of United States earned the bronze medal with a 21-14, 21-12 win over Frida Lopez and Itzel Santoyo of Mexico.
