USA athletes feel at home in Montreux, as team enter finals
Montreux, Switzerland, May 31, 2014 – As USA proves their strength in the 2014 volleyball season - entering the Montreux Volley Masters finals undefeated - some of the women are feeling right at home.
Setter Courtney Thompson and libero Natalie Hagglund may be getting some of their strength for the tournament, by connecting with the fans as current and future players for Volero Zurich club team.
Thompson played for the Swiss champions at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club Word Championship and in the CEV DenizBank Champions League. Natalie Hagglund, a 21-year-old from California, will play in Switzerland next season.
“It’s such an amazing year for me,” Hagglund said. “I’ve just finished college and I am happy to already be contracted by such a great club like Volero Zurich. It isn’t always easy for a libero.
“I was in Switzerland for the try outs and already felt at home. I’m still a young player and commit some errors, but I think that it’s a big opportunity for me to grow as player.”
One thing that will make Hagglund feel at home is having her teammate and London 2012 Olympic silver medalist, Tompson by her side.
“I’ve known Courtney for a year now and it’s great that we can play now in the club too,” she said. “She’s just sparky and helps whenever she can. I’m sure that I will feel at home really fast.”
USA will battle Germany in the final game on Sunday at 16:00 (GMT+2).
