Great development of volleyball in Africa emphasised during CAVB Board meeting

CAVB President Dr Elwani emphasised the great development of volleyball in Africa during CAVB Board Administration Meeting
Cairo, Egypt, May 16, 2014- CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani featured the great development of African volleyball during the last 12 months owing to the great efforts done by all the board members and the support of the FIVB and the President Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, who took over the responsibility with much reliability to aid the sport.

Elwani showed in his activity report in front of the CAVB Board of Administration, the most important initiative – The African Dream Project – which will be implemented under the name of the FIVB President. He figured out the great unity of the whole board during the 2013 CAVB Congress in Rwanda.

CAVB President thanked the commissions for the great job they have done during their meetings in the past 12 months. He added that those commissions combined strength to CAVB strategies.

"We invested CHF450,000 in 2013 in courses and development wherein more than 500 participants got the benefit of these programs in 21 different countries," said Elwani. "We also renovated the Development Centres and each centre should organize at least three courses per year to help the neighbouring countries alongside the VCP courses supervised by the FIVB."

He also showed the significant increase in the number of international referees to 213, which helped African referees to also rise at the international level.

"One of the major highlights of the year was the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship Qualification which included 36 tournaments at the sub-zonal, zonal and final levels. We spent CHF1,200,000 as support from the FIVB to finally qualify five teams – three men and two women – to the World Championships finals in Poland and Italy."

"We need also to evaluate the great development in Beach Volleyball activities attracting more than 40 countries out of the 53 affiliated National Federation. We had good work in the age group African Championships in qualifying teams to the World Championships."

"We want to praise the great work done by the media in covering the sport throughout the continent and projecting a good image for the sport to the whole world. We also want to emphasise the excellent role of social media in disseminating fast and comprehensive news about the activities of the Confederation.”

CAVB Treasurer Habu Gumel in conjunction with the CAVB Finance Director presented the financial report which was approved by the Board.

CAVB Executive Director Howyda Mondy presented the volleyball activity report and showed the long way of the World Championship qualifiers which included 36 tournaments and featured 39 countries and 330 matches in men's and women's categories.

She also applauded the great participation of the men and women at the African Club Championships in Tunisia earlier this year.
