FIVB International Referee Candidates' Course for female referees starts in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand, May 15, 2014 - An International Referee Candidates' Course for female referees started on May 14 at the FIVB Development Center in Thailand, with 15 referees from 13 countries taking part in the development programme.

The course, which will be carried out over an eight-day period, aims to improve the knowledge and competence of female referees from different parts of the world.

Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, president of the Thailand Volleyball Association, presided over the opening ceremony at the office of the FIVB Development Center in Thailand on May 14, with Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, member of FIVB Board of Administration, and Mr Chai Nimakorn, Director of the FIVB Development Center in Thailand, attending.

The course, which will end on May 21, is conducted by the FIVB Referee Commission member and the FIVB Course Director Mr Songsak Chareonpong, with Mr Laszlo Herpai being the FIVB Course Instructor.

"I would like to offer all visitors a warm welcome to Thailand. It is indeed a great pleasure for us to hold the International Referee Candidates' Course, which sees 15  female referees taking part," said Mr Somporn in his opening speech.

"Hopefully, we will do our best not only to serve all our distinguished guests during their stay in Bangkok, but also to make the course a great success."
