Carthage, GSP and Kenyan rivals move to semifinals of Women's African Club Championship

The favourite teams qualified for the semifinals of the 2014 Women's African Club championship

Carthage, Tunisia, April 23, 2014 – Hosts Carthage (Tunisia) along with defending Champions Prisons, Pipeline (Both from Kenya) and GS Petroliers (Algeria) qualified for the semifinal of the 2014 Women's African Club Championship following their victories over FAP (Cameroon), Sfax (Tunisia), Injis (Cameroon) and Shams (Egypt) respectively in the quarterfinal matches held at Sidi Bousaid Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Wednesday.

In the quarterfinal matches for 9 to 16 positions APR (RWA), Ndeje (UGA), Chlef (ALG) and Bafia (CMR) won their matches against Nkumba (UGA), Water Sports (ETH), Manga (GAB) and Bejaia (ALG) to play for the 9 to 12 positions, while the losers play for the 13 to 16 places.

Host Carthage keep Tunisia's dreams of winning the title in a golden year for volleyball in the North African Country after they beat FAP 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 27-25) to clinch a semifinal ticket. Veteran Fatma Agrebi and Maissa Lengliz led the winners scorers with 13 points, while FAP's Rose Ngo led the match scorers with 17 points.

Defending champions Kenya Prisons beat Sfax 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) to qualify for the semifinal for the fifth year in row. Moim Sukuku led the winner scorers with 12 points, while Sfax hitter Jihen Mohammed led match scorers with 13.

Pipeline topped Injis 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15) to qualify for the semifinal after they missed the podium last year. Emerging star violet Makuto led the match scorers with an impressive 19 points, while Roline Tatchou led Injis scorers with 13.

2013 runner up GSP overwhelmed Shams 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-22) to book a semifinal ticket for the second year. Outside hitter Zohra Ben Salem led the match and GSP scorers with 18 points, while Aya Elsami scored only 9 points as the best scorer from Shams side.

In the quarterfinal for the 9 to 16 positions APR defeated Nkumba 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21), and Chlef beat Water Sports 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-23). Bafia defeated Manga 3-0 (25-14 , 25-11, 25-23) while Ndeje flew past Bejaia 3-1 (19-25,  25-21, 25-20, 27-25).

Carthage now face GSP in the semifinal of the competition on April 25, which features a purely Kenyan clash between rivals Prisons and Pipeline.
