The CAVB Coaches Commission discussed many proposals to improve the coaching process in Africa

Cairo, Egypt, April 9, 2014 – The CAVB Coaches Commission meeting concluded on Wednesday with a set of proposals to be approved at the next CAVB Board of Administration meeting in May.

Participants at the meeting, which was attended by CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani and Commission President Sherif El Shemerly, discussed key programmes for 2014 in particular the Coaching Instructor Programme. This programme will train 10 new African instructors according to a set of criteria decided in advance by members of the Coaches Commission.

Members also discussed the implementation of13 courses to be organised for coaches in 2014 in different continental zones as well as the fourth high performance seminar aimed at promoting the highest level of coaching skills.  

The commission also discussed the Coaches Aid Programme an initiative supported by the FIVB to assist coaches of top national teams in selected national federations. The programme has garnered a high level of success in countries like Rwanda, Mozambique, Burkina Faso and Cape Verde and the commission will suggest more national federations to support.

Another important item for discussion was the development of grassroots activities in 2014 aimed at increasing the participation of young boys and girls in the sport.

The coaches’ scholarship was also reviewed in detail. This new programme allows prominent coaches to experience working with some of the world’s top teams in order to help African coaches with their teams’ training preparations. 

The Commission discussed ways in which to honour pioneer coaches in addition to an e-learning platform to allow coaches to prepare for courses online.

The three day Africa Coaching Instructors Seminar will begin on Thursday with the attendance of 10 selected coaches.
