Icelandic volleyball final becomes a family affair

The Iceland Cup final featured Miglena Apostolova (No. 5 ) and her daughters Kristina (right, the libero) and Velina (No. 3); and Thelma Dögg Grétarsdóttir (No. 1) and her mother Guðrún Elva Sveinsdóttir (No. 7)
Lausanne, Switzerland, March 28, 2014 – Icelandic team UMFA established a record of sorts in the recent Iceland Cup final with some strong family representation.

HK beat UMFA 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 14-25, 13-25) in the final despite the closeness of some of the UMFA team members.

UMFA featured Miglena Apostolova and her daughters Kristina and Velina on their team, which was remarkable in itself, but the team also had another mother and daughter in the lineup, Guðrún Elva Sveinsdóttir and Thelma Dögg Grétarsdóttir.

And the family contributions didn’t stop there as the UMFA coach was another Apostolev, Apostol, while HK coach Nataliu Ravva had her daughter Mariam Eradze in the HK team. Not to be outdone, HK‘s assistant coach Einar Sigurdsson‘s daughter Elisabet Einardóttir was also on the HK team.

The Iceland Cup matches were also televised live.
