The Indonesia Palembang Open, which customarily takes place right after the Thailand Songkhla Open has been postponed to later in the year. It is scheduled to take place after the Asian Beach Games in November – before or after the Indonesia Bangka Open in December – on account of elections in Indonesia. The Oceania Championship will be held in June in Papua New Guinea with the exact date to be confirmed.

The AVC Beach Department, together with media company IEC in Sports is in close discussion with the UAE Volleyball Association and Dubai Sports Council to organise the AVC Pro-Beach Tour Final in Dubai. The tournament will welcome the top 12 men’s and women’s teams as per their AVC ranking points. The dates are tentatively scheduled for November and should be confirmed by end of April.

It will be a busy year with three major multi-sports games in the AVC territory, a second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China from August 17 to 27, the 17th Asian Games from September 20 to 29 in Incheon, Korea and a fourth Asian Beach Games from November 16 to 23 in Phuket, Thailand. In addition, the fourth Western Asian Games will be held on the Kish Island of Iran after the Asian Games with the exact date to be confirmed.

The AVC Beach Council also discussed several proposals relating to the AVC Age-Group Championships for the U17, U19, U21, U23 groups and the status of the second edition of the AVC Continental Cup. AVC Financial Assistance to the FIVB WT Assist TS/RD was also discussed during the meeting.

FIVB ranking points will only be attributed to AVC Continental Tour events but not multisport games which are not under the jurisdiction of the FIVB such as the Asian Games and the Asian Beach Games.
