Argentina, Chile off to good start at South American Beach Tour

 
A good start to Chile woman's team

Viña del Mar, Chile, February 7, 2014 - Argentina and Chile’s beach volleyball athletes lead the way at the second stop of the Continent Tour in Viña del Mar this weekend.

Argentina’s Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug won both of their matches, while Chile’s Javier Dagá and Matías Tobar defeated Brazil’s Francioni and Gustavo Carvalhaes, 3-0 (21-19, 14-21 and 16-14). 

Chile’s Dagá and Tobar defeated Perú’s Maldonado and Roger Rengifo, and Chilean cousins Grimalts  defeated Argentina’s Ian Mehamed and Julián Azaad. Chile’s Rodrigo Salinas and Cristóbal Martínez overcame Bolivia and finished the the first day with a win against Uruguay’s Renzo Cairus and Nicolás Zanotta.

Argentina’s Gallay-Klug also were undefeated in the first day, with a 2-0 win against Mogollon-Cubillas from Peru 2-0 and second ranked Brazilian team Monte-Fares 2-0.

Chile’s Camila Pazdirek-Francisca Rivas, Paraguay’s and Valiente-Cardoso both defeated Argentina’s Julieta Puntin and Cecilia Peralta.

Among the men, Pablo-Facundo Del Coto opened the competition with a loss against Henriquez-Rangel from Venezuela 2-0 (19-21, 20-22).

Champions of the Argentine Tour stop in Cerrito, Ian Mehamed and Julian Azaad, defeated Brizuela-Riveros from Paraguay 2-0 (21-10, 25-23) to play against the powerful Chilean cousins Marco-Esteban Grimalt. The pair finished with a victory and a defeat their first day as Chile overcame them 2-0 (18-21, 18-21).

On Saturday, they will also close their first round quarterfinals. Only four teams of each gender will participate of semi-finals and the final matches on Sunday.
