China holds 'Park Volley' tournament
Beijing, China, December 3, 2013 - The Chinese Volleyball Association organised a two-day park volley tournament in Nanning, capital of China’s southern Guangxi province at the end of November.
Participating in the tournament were four professional youth teams from Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu and the Army, and four amateur teams from the Guangxi province.
Li Quanqiang, Vice-Director of the Chinese Volleyball Administration (the governing body of Chinese Volleyball and Beach Volleyball), said “Park Volley is a rising new volleyball programme promoted by the FIVB in order to attract the participation of youth and volleyball fans. It is aimed at developing new opportunities for young people to enjoy sport and make new friends. Park Volley is also a popular mass sport and is an easy, fun and competitive way of playing.”
“Guangxi has a strong base in volleyball. We wish to develop Park Volley so as to provide another fun sport for our volleyball fans,” Mr. Li added.
The Shanghai youth squad won the championship in the professional pool while the Bester Sport Club finished first in the amateur category.
