Re-live mass summer volley festival in Finland

Nearly 7,000 young volleyball players took part in the 29th edition of the annual Power Cup tournament
Lausanne, Switzerland, November 15, 2013 – This summer, Mikkeli, Finland hosted one of the largest mass volley festivals in the world. Nearly 7,000 young volleyball players took part in the 29th edition of the annual Power Cup tournament, including 828 teams including 47 from Estonia and Russia.

Fans and participants can now re-live the fun by watching a YouTube video by the FIVB Development Department.

The four day competition in June, 2013 had beautiful weather. Around 5,200 matches were played on 261 outdoor volleyball courts constructed on sand and grass. Accommodation for the participants was provided by the local schools.

As the organisers of the Power Cup showed, the tournament was not only about volleyball. At the opening ceremony, which took place in the Mikkeli market square, Finnish rap-artist Aste provided the entertainment. There were also beach volley exhibition matches played by some of the best Finnish players. The closing party included music performed by Finnish artist Redrama and DJ Preal, which is featured in the YouTube video.
