Inaugural Open Veteran Championship of Serbia - a resounding success
Belgrade, Serbia, October 15, 2013 - The first Open Veteran Championship of Serbia was organised by the Volleyball Federation of Serbia this past weekend with the technical support of the Partizan Vizura Volleyball Club.
Nenad Golijanin, senior vice-president of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia was the President of the Organising Committee of this international Championship, which was played on four courts of the three venues of the Vizura Sports Center, at Tošin bunar and in Zemun.
The championship saw the participation of 26 teams hailing from Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro, Slovenia and Serbia.
The women’s teams that took part in the over-35 category were: Kaštela (Croatia); Rabotni?ki Skoplje (FYROM); and Beograd, Rekreativa Kukujevci, Ši?anke Šid (Serbia). Beograd took first place in the Championship, followed by Kaštela and Rabotni?ki in third place.The 13 teams in the men’s over-35 category were: Osijek and Otpisani Rovinj from Croatia; Veterani Nikola Zenovi?, Budva from Montenegro; Kropa, Maribor and Mega Volej Kopar from Slovenia; Beogradske elektrane, 21. maj Beograd, Fiškali Novi Sad, Piloti Zemun, TENT RSI Obrenovac, Volej Vets Veliko Gradište and Zaje?ar from Serbia.
Beogradske elektrane took the top spot on the podium, while Volej Vets Veliko Gradište came second and Fiškali Novi Sad, third.
Eight teams played in the men’s over-45 category: Mladost Zagreb and Osijek from Croatia; TVD Partizan Kamna Gora Ljubljana from Slovenia; and from Serbia 21. maj Beograd, Kraljevo, Veterani Niš, Volej Vets 1 Beograd and Volej Vets 2 Beograd. The Champion title was won by Kraljevo, followed by runners-up Osijek and Veterani Niš.
