Beach Volleyball makes its debut in 2014's Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 19, 2013 - The final countdown to next year’s Youth Olympic Games has begun. The second edition of the Games are set to take place from August 16 to 28, 2014 in the Chinese city of Nanjing and it will be the first time beach volleyball will be included in the sporting line-up.

While just volleyball made it to the list of sports for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, next year’s Games will only feature beach volleyball. The event will be held at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sport Park alongside a number of other sports including rugby, BMX and hockey. Situated 20 minutes from the centre of the city, construction of the complex is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

Beach volleyball will make its debut at the Youth Olympics next year as it was not included at the inaugural edition of the Games in Singapore in 2010, where only the indoor version of the sport was held.

To celebrate the one-year-to-go mark, the city of Nanjing last night unveiled the OMEGA Countdown Clock.

The Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing will see the participation of over 3,600 athletes and will include 28 Olympic sports.
