Countries prepare for 2014 World Championship Pool D qualifiers

The Cote d'Ivoire women's team is the favourite to win the sub-zonal qualifier later this month

Cairo, Egypt, July 16, 2013 – Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana and host Burkina Faso. These countries will compete in a three nation round robin tournament for the Pool D sub-zonal phase women’s qualifier for 2014 World Championship due to start in Ouagadougou on Thursday.

The competition follows the second tournament of this phase after Mozambique hosted a Pool J tournament early this month.

The African World Championship qualifier passes through three stages, the sub-zonal stage taking place this month to qualify 30 teams to the second round, zonal phase to be held in October and November 2013.

The top 12 teams from the zonal phase, joined by the top two ranked teams in the FIVB ranking, will play in two pools in the final phase in January and February 2014, where the leader of each pool will qualify directly for the 2014 Women's World Championship in Italy.
