Belgrade, Serbia, June 28, 2013 –

Serbia want two victories – Germans hope for suprise

Although this is the 16th time Serbia is participating in the World League, and 9th edition for Germany, the last match of the two teams happened at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, when Germany edged Serbia in the third round of the Pool B by 3-2 (20-18 in the fifth, deciding set). Before that, Serbia won 3-0 in Trieste at the 2010 FIVB World Championship.

In Belgrade’s Hotel “M”, the press conference was organized before the start of the World League Pool B matches between Serbia and Germany. The matches will be played in “Pionir” Hall of Sports, on Saturday and Sunday, from 20:00 CET. The conference was attended by captains and head coaches of both teams.

Vital Heynen, head coach of Germany: “On a personal level, I am very disappointed to be here. And I will tell you why. My first international volleyball game, the first time I travelled with an airplane, it was all back in 1986 precisely in the City of Nis. I was so delighted to go there after 27 years. But, the flood prevented us to play in the same sporthall I played and coach Kolakovic promised me to invite us back next year for a couple of friendly games in that city, because I cannot sleep till I see how it looks after so many time. As for the matches. I promes that we will do our best on the court”.

Igor Kolakovic, head coach: “I expect very difficult matches. We played over the years and we know them well, even though their line-up is somewhat different from the one at the Olympic Games last years. For sure, we must do everything to win these matches”.

Dragan Stankovic, team captain of Serbia: “I really hope we can win, and from these matches depend our season in the World League. After three weekend we occupy 3rd place and we cannot hope that someone else will make mistakes. We have to focus and try to do our best, but it will be very hard”.

Jochen Schops, team captain of Germany: “Everybody is looking forward to a great weekend. It will be very hard, and I expect some good matches. I hope people would come to see us in a great number”.

Due to heavy flooding that struck southern parts of Serbia, the “Cair” Hall of Sports in the City of Nis, is out of service. The matches of will now be played in “Pionir” Hall of Sports in Belgrade, on Saturday and Sunday, from 20:00 CET.
