Argentina men's team take part in exhibition match in Mar del Plata

Local school children came out to watch the exhibition match among members of the Argentina Men's team

Mar del Plata, Argentina, May 23, 2013 - The Argentine men’s volleyball team conducted an open training at the Pan-American Islas Malvinas Sport Centre trained inviting all local and neighbourhood school children to enjoy the game.

The  ‘Light Blue and White’ team was coached by Weber while Alejandro Grossi coached the  ’Blue’ team  in the  exhibition match for club and schools, which saw nearly 3,000 spectators.

After the match, players and coaching staff spent some time with the children for pictures and autographs and to give interviews to the awaiting journalists.

The ’Light Blue and White’ team beat the ’Blue’" team 2-0 (25-20, 25-21). The only player absent from the training was  wing spiker Facundo Conte, who travelled to Buenos Aires to  undergo surgery on his right shoulder putting him out of the   the World League this year. Wing spikers Guillermo Garcia and Nicolas Bruno were also present at the match but did not take part in the match on account of minor injuries.

As the FIVB World League Final will be held in the stadium, the match was a useful practice match for the Local Organising Committee who were available to conduct sound trials and other logistical tests.

"It was a different training session but very positive with the atmosphere that the children brought to the field. They came to thank us but really we have to thank them for the warmth they offer us," said Pablo Bengolea.
