Bulgaria secures ticket to Women’s U20 World Champs in Czech Republic
Bulgaria edged out Germany in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-22) to finish their campaign at Arena Samokov with an immaculate record of four wins. In the battle for the sole ticket to the World Championship, Germany started out strongly but Bulgaria responded with excellent blocks and attacks to claim the first set comfortably with a score of 25-15.
Although Germany made a better start in the second set they were no match for Bulgaria’s determination and focus. Bulgaria consequently took the second set of the match with a 25-23 win and then the third (25-22) which was enough to give them their much desired ticket to the World Championship.
The second match of the day took place between Greece and Latvia, with the latter winning the match in four sets (25-22, 19-25, 25-16, 25-7).
Greece claimed the opening set (25-22) before Latvia dictated the tempo of the game to take the second taking the score to 1-1 (19-25). Greece found their back in the third set going up 10 points at the second technical time-out and took the set 25-16. Greece claimed their first win in the tournament after Latvia were only able to score 7 points in the fourth set.
