Dominican Republic and Colombia to play for the crown at Copa Latina

Dominican Republic's Gaila Gonzalez tips over the Peruvian blocking in the five-set win on Saturday

Lima, Peru, May 11, 2013 – Dominican Republic will play Colombia in the title match of the women’s junior Copa Latina at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum on Sunday.

The Dominicans pulled a five-set victory (13-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-21, 15-13) over host Peru while Colombia defeated Mexico in four sets (25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21).

Pamela Soriano led the Dominicans with 23 points followed by Gaila Gonzalez with 17 while Larysmer Martinez and Massiel Matos chipped in with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Peru’s Angela Leyva had a match-high 28 points in leading five players with double digits in scoring. Izabot Bravo and Milagros Rodriguez each had 15 while Ginna Lopez and Andrea Urrutia charted 13 and 10.

Margarita Martinez and Danna Escobar led Colombia with 21 and 18 points respectively while Mexico’s Alejandra Isiordia and Lizbeth Sainz finished with 24 and 17.
