Cuba's Leyva breaks individual points record with 59 point haul

 
Leyva registered 57 points in attack, one block and one ace
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 21, 2013 - Cuban 23-year-old Leonardo Leyva Martinez broke the record for the most number of points in a match when he scored 59 points for Korea champions Samsung Blue Fangs in the "Top Match" against Japan champions Osaka Blazers Sakai in Sendai, Japan on Sunday.

Leyva, 2.06m, registered 57 points in attack, one block and one ace in the 3-2 (27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13) defeat at the hands of Osaka, scoring 55 per cent of Samsung's total of 107 points, beating the previous record of 55 points registered by USA opposite Nicole Fawcett while playing for Korea Expressway in the Korean V-League on February 12.

The Top Match is an annual encounter between the men’s and women’s champions of the Japan and Korean leagues, which was first staged in 2006.
