Mexico’s U19 team win friendly match in Brazil

The Mexican boys are training and playing with Brazilian teams at Saquarema High Performance Center near Rio de Janeiro

Saquarema, Brazil, March 29, 2013 – The Mexican U19 Boys National Team claimed an encouraging victory in a friendly match against Brazil, during its current training tour.

The team, coached by Oscar Licea, won in straight sets against a junior team from Rio de Janeiro with scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-22.

The friendly match took place at the training centre of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CVB) located in Saquarema, a municipality near the main commercial harbour of Rio.

“The victory was important,” said coach Licea. The training tour is an important step in his team’s bid for the U19 World Championship to be played in Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico from June 27 to July 7.

“We are also scheduled to play against the Brazilian U19 team – the squad that will also take part in the World Championship,” Licea said. “That will be an important match since it will serve to evaluate different aspects and to see where we are against teams at this level.”
