Mexico’s U19 team training camp in Brazil

Saquarema, Brazil, March 24 2013 — The Mexican National Boys U19 Team have begun a training camp at the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation High Performance Centre in the city of Saquarema to prepare for the FIVB World Championship to be held in Tijuana and Mexicali from June 27 to July 7.

The team, coached by Oscar Licea, departed from Los Angeles to Rio de Janeiro, after receiving their practice and game uniforms at the Baja California High Performance Centre.

“This is a great opportunity and we will try to get the best out of it,” said Licea. “We have worked hard in every training session in Baja and have also achieved some goals in our preparation for the international stage.”

In addition to coach Licea, the boys’ team have an experienced entourage comprising Eduardo Murguia (assistant coach), Jorge Romero (statistics specialist and former head coach of the Baja California U14 team) and Liliana Ibarra (athletic therapist).

The U19 roster includes: Luis Gerardo Bojórquez (Sinaloa); Alan Gabriel and Martínez Alarcón (Chihuahua); Alexis Garay Nava (Jalisco); Iván Molano Rueda (Tamaulipas) and Geiser Mejía Reyes (Veracruz). Seven other players from Baja California were also called up for this international training camp: Sebastian Castro Shawer, Mauricio López Reyes, Leobardo Fabián Luna, Christian Aranda, Ariel Acosta Magdaleno, Enrique Ugalde Campo and Francisco Fernando Forte (second best libero at the Men’s U23 Pan American Cup in Langley, Canada in 2012).
