Top officials meet ahead of FIVB volleyball events in Mexico

Many of the Mexico girls who finished 12th at the FIVB Under 18 Girls World Championship in 2011 will hope to play in the FIVB age group World Championships again this year
Mexico City, Mexico, January 30, 2013 – Preparations for two FIVB age group Volleyball World Championships, which will be staged in Mexico this year, are in full swing following a meeting between the country’s Sports Minister Jesus Mena Campos and FIVB Executive Vice-President Saul Castro Verdugo.

The FIVB Boys' Under-19 World Championship is scheduled to be played from June 27 to July 7 in the cities of Mexicali and Tijuana, while the women’s Under-23 World Championship - a new tournament launched by the FIVB - will be held from October 2 to 13. The host cities for the women’s tournament have yet to be finalised.

“We discussed very important topics,” said Castro, who also is also a member of the FIVB Sports Events Council. “In the case of volleyball events, we analyzed the strategies for the Boys’ Under-19 World Championship, which will be played in Baja California, as well as the Women’s Under-23 World Championship.”

The FIVB introduced the Under 23 World Championships in order to provide another opportunity for age-group players to participate in an international tournament with the goal of reducing the gap between age-group and senior level volleyball.
