David Aleman is new Puerto Rico men’s coach

Puerto Rico's coach David Aleman moves from the women's to the men's ranks

San Juan, Puerto Rico, January 16, 2013 – David Aleman, who coached the Puerto Rican Women’s National Team for the past two years, is moving to the men’s team.

Aleman replaces the Argentinean Carlos Cardona who will continue as an advisor to the Puerto Rican National Federation.

Rafael Olazaguesti, who was an assistant to Aleman during his time with the women’s team, takes over the job as full time coach.

“It is a challenge for me to accept the position as new coach of the men’s team which will go through a revamping process,” Aleman said. “We are in the beginning of a new Olympic cycle and I like the challenge.”

“Our first goal is to qualify to the 2014 FIVB World Championship in Poland but we also have to prepare for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico in 2014 and the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada the following year.”

Aleman recently guided the Arecibo Captains to the title in the first year of the franchise in the Puerto Rico Men’s League while Olazaguesti coached Lancheras de Cataño to the crown in last year’s edition of the women’s league.
