Moving forward

In December, in the Executive Committee meeting in Rio de Janeiro, I outlined what I believed to be the important factors in volleyball’s progress for the months and years to come.

From an organisational perspective, it is important that we are committed to being well governed and transparent as this is an important factor in maintaining our standing with the outside world. This will also enable us to build better relationships with governments, whose partnership would be invaluable especially on technical projects and investments.
That being said, it is essential that we build the capacities of our national federation managers, who are so crucial to the development and expansion of our sport. Each country’s national federation must work towards attracting, training and motivating the best volleyball managers. For our part the FIVB is committed to offering training courses, seminars and meetings to develop their skills.

It is also important to work from the ground up, to ensure that our athletes of tomorrow are provided with the equipment, schools, gymnasiums, sports facilities and clubs from an early age. In doing so, we help to make volleyball an integral part of the fabric of our community.

Volleyball is a fantastic sport but it needs an investment of energy to increase, expand and exist and I am confident that the volleyball family will put their best foot forward this year.

Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, FIVB President
