Dr. Ary S. Graça honoured at the 2012-13 Superliga launch ceremony
Dr. Graça’s community and sports achievements in Brazilian volleyball include titles won by the men’s and women’s national team, the construction of the Volleyball Development Center in Saquarema and the establishment of VivaVôlei, a social program that has helped more than 200,000 children from 7 to 14 years. These achievements were highlighted in a video shown at the ceremony, after which time Dr. Graça was invited to say a few words.
In his speech, he thanked Mikasa for the honour and commended the Superliga’s athletes saying, “You are the most important people here today. We work to allow you to show your talent. And you do it in a brilliant way.”
Dr. Graça highlighted the importance of the Superliga, which will have 22 teams (12 in the men’s tournament and 10 in the women’s) and 318 players, including 31 Olympic medallists, this year.
The competition established itself nationally during Ary Graça’s term at CBV. Superliga showed its power last season, taking 320,000 people to the courts.
