Crvena Zvezda from Belgrade won Serbian Supercup for second time in a row
The senior men of VC Crvena Zvezda are still unbeaten in this competition following its second edition. After dominating in the first set, the “red-and-whites” had somewhat more difficult task in the following set, but only until the second technical time-out. In the third set Vojvodina NS Seme had their chances, and even led on few occasions, but in the end they had to accept defeat against the more enthusiastic team.
Svetlana Smiljanic of the Wiener Stadtische Company presented the special plates to players and members of the staff of both teams. Nenad Golijanin, First Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, gave the trophy to the winning team.
The match was carefully followed by Igor Kolakovic, coach of Serbia’s senior men’s team, who was accompanied by Andrija Geric, ex-player of the national team, and Miljan Grbovic, senior men’s team trainer.
Dusko Nikolic, coach of Crvena Zvezda, said: “This is surely a great boost for our young team before the start of the season. It is always difficult to play against Vojvodina, and although the final score makes it look like an easy win, on the court it was very complicated.”
“We hoped to win this trophy and we did it, but it was by no means as easy as the result may seem,” said Mihajlo Mitic, captain of Crvena Zvezda. “There is still much to be improved in our game, but I am sure that we will raise the level of our performance in the next few weeks.”
“We knew that we are not at the top of our game, but I hoped that we would show more commitment on the court,” said Nikola Salatic, head coach of Vojvodina. “I am not blaming my guys, but I expected more from them.”
“It is obvious that we are not comfortable playing against Crvena Zvezda,” said Vojvodina player Milija Mrdak. “We struggle a lot, and in this moment they are a better team. We will do our best to catch up to them.”
