Espinho, Portugal, June 15, 2012. The Volleyball Academy established by Portugal’s former beach volleyball stars Miguel Maia and João Brenha (whose career highlight remains their fourth place at the 2000 Sydney Olympics) is currently working hard to get ready to host the 2012 AMB Volleyball Cup which is scheduled from July 2 to 8.

The indoor division is open to various age groups (minis, infants, initiates, cadets, juveniles and juniors) while the Beach Volleyball competition is addressed exclusively to senior players (men and women) but will be played with the original formulas 4 vs. 4 and 6 vs. 6.

Some 700 players have already signed up for this event that will enjoy significant TV coverage with food and lodging being provided by the organizers to all participants.

The main long-term goal of the local Volleyball Academy is to turn this event into an internationally-recognized tournament where, apart from involving elite players and amateurs, special clinics are also taking place to discuss items devoted to Volleyball and Beach Volleyball via the contribution given by local coaches and guests coming from abroad.

With the unique scenario provided by the city of Espinho, one of Europe’s “hottest” holiday destinations, the participants will have the possibility to join special animation programs and parties taking place all around there. The program of the last day includes also a so-called “All Star Game” that is to be joined by some of Portugal’s best Volleyball players and coaches.
