St. Lucia completes rout to take the gold

St Lucia celebrate their victory over St Vincent and Grenadines on Sunday
Gros Islet, St Lucia, April 29, 2012- Hosts St. Lucia ousted St. Vincent and the Grenadines 3-0 (25-16, 25- 18, 25-13) in the final match in Pool B of the first round of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championships NORCECA Qualification Tournament at the Beausejour Indoor Facility on Sunday.

St Lucia, easily the superior team among the four, finished the tournament unbeaten, winning all five matches in straight-sets.

Triumphant coach Kendall Charlery praised for his players and the backroom staff for team's commanding performance in the tournament.

"Our strength was our attack and the blocking came through," he said.

The St Lucia coach believes that the team's exposure to different techniques of coaching is also helping to lift the standard of play. At present, the St Lucia volleyball setup is being assisted by Brazilian Joao Carlos Morales.

St Vincent and the Grenadines coach Brian Burke admitted to the St Lucian's superiority.

"We were simply beaten by a superior team," Burke said.

Earlier on, Grenada overcame a more organised and committed St. Eustatius outfit 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-23) to take the third place.

St. Eustatius failed to win a set throughout the duration of the tournament, which spanned five matches.
