Ningbo, China, June 29, 2012 – World No. 1 and World Grand Prix title-holders the United States beat Turkey 3-1 here on Friday to remain as the only team unbeaten at the 2012 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals.
Megan Hodge had 23 kills and five stuffs to lead the American women to their third straight victory in the six-team round robin tournament. The World Grand Prix winners in the last two years also extended their winning-streak in this year’s event connecting preliminary and final rounds to 12 while the World Grand Prix Finals debutants from Turkey suffered their first defeat in three matches.
Beijing Olympic champions Brazil swept Cuba 3-0 for their second win in a row, sending the Cuban side to its third loss in three days. The Brazilians produced a total of 12 ace points, compared with five for Cuba.
In the last match of the day, Thailand upset the host China 3-2 for its first victory here in Ningbo while the Chinese women slipped to an 1-2 win-loss record.
After Friday’s action, the United States led the standings with eight points and Brazil was second at seven, followed by Turkey (6), China (4), Thailand (2) and Cuba (0).
