Born in 1946 in Sosnowiec, Wspanialy was appointed as Poland's head coach in 2001. The same year he led his youthful team to a very creditable seventh place at the World League finals and in 2002, the team under his command took another step forward to finish fifth. It was the best ever achievement for Poland in this elite competition. In the preliminary phase, Poland won all matches on their home soil, a result no other competing team could match. Several months later at the World Championship in Argentina Wspanialy's squad finished ninth. A former active player, Wspanialy coached several Polish clubs before his appointment to the national side. These included Plomien Sosnowiec, Stilon Gorzow Wlpk and Motostal Azoty Kedzierzyn-Kozle. For the 2003 World League he does not plan any revolutionary changes in his team, which has already proven that they are well up to the task of shaking up the standing
order.
Waldemar Wspanialy - Spanish
Nacido en 1946 en Sosnowiec, Wspanialy fue designado director técnico de la selección nacional de Polonia en el 2001. El mismo año dirigió a su joven equipo a un prestigioso séptimo lugar en la final de la Liga Mundial, y en el 2002 la escuadra dio otro paso más hacia delante ocupando la quinta ubicación. Fue el mejor logro de todos los tiempos para Polonia en esta competencia de élite. En la fase preliminar, los polacos ganaron todos sus partidos en casa, resultado que ningún otro equipo pudo alcanzar. Varios meses después en el Campeonato Mundial en Argentina, la escuadra de Wspanialy terminó en quinta posición. Ex voleibolista, Wspanialy dirigió a varios clubes polacos antes de su nombramiento en el equipo nacional.
