The first national team squad in this
category was created in April of 2001 when
from a group of 71 potential players in
the first selection, 25 were chosen to
continue preparation. Their first
international event was a tournament in
Liege Belgium in July 2001, however
concentrated preparation really commenced
in earnest after that when some 20
training camps were arranged and the team
absolved about 115 training sessions.
The
most important event in 2002 was another
tournament in Belgium, a “Memorial for
R. Mies” in the Belgiun town of Louvain,
where they won the event.
The team then took
place in an international tournament in
Hausach in Germany where they finished in
fifth place. They then went on to win the
“Tournament of Olympic Hopes” in
Dunaujvaros, Hungary and finished in
second place in an international
tournament in Nitra, Slovakia.
The team topped a qualification for the
Youth European Championship, which was
played in Tallin, Estonia, to qualify for
the 2003 European Championship in Zagreb,
Croatia. Finishing sixth in this elite
competition allowed them to qualify for
the Boy’s Under 19 World Championship in
Thailand.
The best players in
the side are considered the two spikers -
Hrazdira (captain) and Fila, blockers
Veselý and Čermák, the universal Kolář,
libero Bence and setters Novák and
Fortuník.
The team officials
are Head Coach Petr Juda, Assistant Coach
Martin Gerža,
Therapist Leoŝ
Novák and Team Manager Václav Stejskal.
