FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships 2012

Press release

Coach and Captain of Fenerbahce both hope for 2010 repeat

Fenerbahce won the title of FIVB Club World Championship two years ago in Doha

Shanon Torregrosa, captain of Lancheras: “I would like to say that the main condition for winning is consistency and today we were not consistent. We made too many mistakes against a strong team like Fenerbahce.

On the main difficulties:

“We could not deal with the powerful serves of the Turkish team and hence were not strong enough in attack to score more points than they did.”

Seda Tokatlioglu, captain of Fenerbahce: “We are happy to come back again to Doha after we missed last year tournament. We are coming here to win the title for a second time. Our win today by 3 sets to 0 is a good sign. Congratulations for the Puerto Rico team for the good match they played.”

On who they think will be their main rival:

“All we should do is to focus on our own game and strengths and try to win any opponent they will face.”

Rafael Olazagasti, coach of Lancheras: “It is great to be part of this big championship. We had some difficulties in our attacking game and this was mainly due to reception problems. Congratulations for the strong Turkish team.

Kamil Soz, coach of Fenerbahce: “We missed last year tournament after winning the title two years ago here in Doha. Fenerbahce is a football club but in the last five years we created a volleyball section which has been successful. Our ambition is to win the title once again although we lost one of our strongest players from Korea, who came with us to Doha but was not allowed to take part in the competition because of a complaint of her original club in Korea. I think that priority should be given to volleyball rather than to financial issues. For today’s match, we made a few errors that we will work at correcting because the semi-finals and the final will be very tough against very strong teams.”
