Sollys/Nestlé triumph in South American C'ship, clinch berth in World Club C'ship

Adenízia was named Best Spiker

Rio de Janeiro, September 7, 2012 – Brazilian Club Sollys/Nestlé defeated Boca Juniors of Argentina 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-9) on Thursday in a match that lasted just over an hour, clinching the South American Women’s Club Championship for the fourth straight time and securing a ticket for the World Club Championship in Qatar.

Sheilla was named Best Player of the tournament, while middle blocker Thaisa was the top scorer with 15 points and was named Best Blocker.

Teammate Adenízia, another middle blocker, who took the Best Spiker prize, said the team still needs to improve.

“The team still needs to grow a lot and we are aware of this,” she said. “The individual award was a surprise for me. Really, I did not expect this award and I feel I still need to find a good spiking rhythm. Now, we need to improve and I have to grow a lot.

“In terms of the final, we knew it would be a very hard match and we expected a strong fight. There’s a long tradition and rivalry between both countries at all sports. They showed great digging and serving but we concentrated better and got a good victory.”

Best Setter Fabíola was happy with what her team achieved.

“I am happy we were able to get a berth in the World Club Championship,” she said. “The most important thing was Sollys/Nestlé winning. The individual awards are secondary.”

Boca libero Carolina Hartmann was the Best Digger in the continental competition.

“I am very happy with the personal award,” she said. “We tried to give our utmost but we knew that the Brazilians were an outstanding team with five Olympic champions, so I am still satisfied and happy with the end result.”

In the first match of the day, Club Deportivo Venezuela (Paraguay) faced Universidad Católica Boliviana (Bolivia) for third place. A close match saw the Bolivian team overcoming the Paraguayans 3-1 (26-28, 25-22, 25-13, 25-12).
