African Club Championship continues to thrill in Tunisia

Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia saw off Voara of Madagascar to top Pool A at the African Club Championships

Sousse, Tunisia, April 22, 2012 - The 2012 Men’s African Club Championship continued on Sunday with only four teams out of the 21 participating clubs clinching a second win at the tournament in Sousse, Tunisia and with it a place in the quarterfinals.

Home side Etoile du Sahel, compatriots Esperance, defending champions Ahly of Egypt as well as Bejaia of Algeria all took their win-loss record to 2-0. Etoile now lead Pool A while Ahly and Esperance are joint-top of Pool B, Ahly Tripoli sit on top of Pool C and Bejaia lead Pool D.

The competition will be continue on Monday with nine matches in the four pools. The eventual winners will earn a berth to the FIVB Men's Club World Championship, set to take place in Doha, Qatar in October.
Pool A
Hosts Etoile du Sahel continued their momentum with the home crowd helping them secure a second victory, this time a straight sets win over Ahly Ben Ghazi (25-21, 25-22, 25-17). The Tunisian team started with the main players before coach Fouad Kamoon utilised his substitutes who continued their superiority.

Etoile improved their record to 2-0 while Ahly Ben Ghazi dropped to 1-1

Borj Bouaririj continued their steady performance to take over AS Voara 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-18). The Algerian team improved to 2-0 while AS Voara dropped to 0-2.

Pool B
Tunisian outfit Esperance fought hard to edge a victory over GSU of Kenya 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 30-28). The Tunisian team faced a lot of critical points specially during the first and third sets but they passed a stern test. The Tunisian team improved to 2-0, while GSU dropped to 1-1.

Defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt continued their winning ways as they swept past Agosto 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-14) to improve their record to 2-0, while the Angolan team dropped to 0-2.

APR of Rwanda bounced back after an opening defeat to beat Inter of Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-17). APR improved to 1-1 and while it was Inter's second loss.

Pool C
Favourites Zamalek of Egypt clinched their first win of the competition, seeing off F Terrestre of Congo RD 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-20). Zamalek coach Mohamed el Lakany tried to use most of his roster after their easy victory in the first set but Terrestre succeeded in improving their defence in the third before losing narrowly 25-20.

Ahly Tripoli easily disposed of Omni Sport of Cotê d'Ivoire 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-23) to improve their win-loss record to 1-1 while Omni Sport dropped to 0-2.
Pool D
Bejaia of Algeria proved their consistency to achieve their second victory in a row against Manga of Gabon 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19).

FAP of Cameroon overcame their sluggish start on day one as they held off Mwangaza of Congo RD 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) to improve to 1-1 while their opponents suffered their first loss.
