Debutants Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan took the title in 2011, beating
Turkey's VakifBank Ttelekom Istanbul in the final. It was the first time
a club from Azerbaijan had sealed the FIVB Women's Club World
Championship crown. Rabita Baku are the third European team to win the
title, after the Italians Messaggero Ravenna in 1992 and Turkey's
Fenerbahce in 2009.
The women’s edition was successfully reintroduced last year after a long
break since the last edition in 1994 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
