Team profile

Bohai Bank was founded in 1998, although until recently the team had been known as Tianjin Bridgestone Volleyball Club. They were renamed Bohai Bank Women’s Volleyball Club this year with the arrival of a new major sponsor.

In recent years the team’s focus has been on building more depth into the roster. The veteran senior team have already amassed a series of impressive achievements since 2003, however. They have won two championships in China’s National Games, which are the country’s most comprehensive sports competition.

Bohai Bank have also won eight championships in the China Volleyball League, five National Volleyball Championship titles and four gold medals from the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.

Coach profile

Wang Baoquan has led Bohai Bank to a series of impressive achievements since being appointed coach of what was then the Tianjin Volleyball Club in 2001. Under his guidance, this team has gradually perfected its hard-working, dare-to-fight and never-say-die style.

Wang was coach of China’s national team until health forced him to give up coaching duties. After several months of recuperation, however, he is now back working in his favourite sport. Wang’s unique training method has proven successful, and every year his team’s players are selected for the national team – stars such as Zhang Na, Zhang Ping and Li Shan.
