The 2012 Club World Championships bring
together six squads from around the globe, including the top teams from
Africa, Asia, Europe, NORCECA and South America. A sixth spot is reserved
for a wild card entry.
Kenya Prisons earned the African berth by winning the Women’s African Club
Champions Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, May 20. The Asian Women’s Club
Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, was won by China’s Bohai Bank
Volleyball Club (formerly Tianjin
Bridgestone) on April 29. Fenerbahce Universal Istanbul of Turkey came away
from the Indesit Champions League Final Four in Baku, Azerbaijan, on March
25 with the European title, while the wild card spot was awarded to
Azerbaijan’s own Rabita Baku. Puerto Rico’s Lancheras de Catano were
nominated to take NORCECA’s spot. Brazil's Sollys/Nestlé clinched the South American Women’s Club Championship for the fourth straight time and secured the last ticket to Qatar.
