Caguas, Puerto Rico, May 14, 2011 – Caguas swept Guaynabo in the best-of-seven Final Series of the Puerto Rico Women’s Superior League to obtain its eighth crown in front of 6,500 spectators at Hector Soza Bezares Coliseum on Saturday, clinching a spot in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship at the same time.
Bethania De la Cruz scored 20 points, including three aces, Stephanie Enright added 11points and Annerys Vargas contributed eight, including two blocks, in the 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 victory. Prisilla Rivera had 12 points as the only player in double digits for Guaynabo.
Puerto Rican Enright, who was voted the Most Improved Player in the regular season for a second year in a row, won the Final Series MVP honors. She is the first native player to achieve the award since Karina Ocasio won it in 2007.
The victory earns Caguas the ticket to represent Puerto Rico and NORCECA Confederation at the Club World Championship, set to be held in Doha, Qatar later this year.
The side will join defending champions Turkey's Fenerbahce, Africa's Kenya Prisons and South America's Unilver of Brazil. The Asian champion is still to be decided as is the wild card entry.
