Doha, Qatar, October 13, 2011 – Turkey’s VakifBank TTelekom Istanbul advanced to the gold-medal match of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club Championship by defeating Brazil’s Sollys Nestle Osasco 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 on Thursday morning at Doha, Qatar.
VakifBank TTelekom will face the winner of tonight’s 5 p.m. semifinal between Rabita Baku and Mirador Santo Domingo for the tournament title on Friday at 5 p.m. Sollys Nestle fall to the bronze-medal match on Friday at 10 a.m. and will play the loser of Rabita Baku and Mirador Santo Domingo.
Malgorzata Glinka sparked VakifBank TTelekom with a match-high 19 points, while Christiane Fuerst contributed 18 points. Sollys Nestle was led by Samara Almeida’s 12 points, followed by Ana Beatriz Correa, Ivna Marra and Adenizia Silva all with seven points.
VakifBank TTelekom held a 41-31 margin in attacks, as well as an 8-3 advantage in aces. Both teams produced nine blocks.

VakifBank TTelekom went into the lead 3-1 in the first set after consecutive blocks by Ozge Cermberci and Christiane Fuerst. Sollys Nestle’s Samara Almeida tied the set at 6-all with an ace, then went in front 8-6 at the first technical timeout following consecutive VakifBank TTelekom attack errors. Out of the break, Ana Beatriz Correa scored a fourth straight point for Sollys Nestle with a block at 9-6. Sollys Nestle extended their margin to 13-8 after VakifBank TTelekom’s fourth and fifth errors of the set. VakifBank TTelekom battled back to within two at 13-11 after three unanswered points. Bahar Toksoy served consecutive aces to knot the score at 13-all, then Malgorzata Glinka downed consecutive overpasses to take the lead at 15-13. Gozde Sonisirma denied a Sollys Nestle attack to increase VakifBank TTelekom’s advantage to 16-13 as part of an 8-0 scoring run. Toksoy tallied an attack and block on consecutive plays to widen the margin to 23-16. Jelena Nikolic ended the set for VakifBank TTelekom with an attack at 25-19. Glinka scored a team-high seven points in the opening set, while Fuerst added six points.
VakifBank TTelekom rushed to a 4-1 lead in the second set that included a power spike by Glinka. Karine Souza fired up her team with a block that knotted the score at 4-all, then Sollys Nestle went in front 5-4 on a VakifBank TTelekom bad set. Nikolic hit a cross-court winner to return VakifBank TTelekom to the lead at 6-5. Correa launched two aces and Adenizia Silva put up a block in a 5-0 Sollys Nestle run that put them ahead 11-8. Cemberci served two aces of her own for VakifBank TTelekom to level the score at 11-all. Silva put up a block at 14-11 sending VakifBank TTelekom into a timeout after yielding three straight points. Glinka hammered an attack down the left side to reduce the deficit to 14-13, then Sonsirma tied the set at 14-all with another attack. Glinka tallied a fourth straight point for VakifBank TTelekom enabling them to take a 15-14 advantage. Out of the second technical timeout, Glinka attacked off the block to increase VakifBank TTelekom’s lead to 17-15. Almeida tied the score at 18-all with an attack off the block. Fuerst answered with a block to yield a VakifBank TTelekom 20-18 lead going into a Sollys Nestle timeout. Nikola, Glinka and Fuerst scored consecutive points to raise VakifBank TTelekom’s margin to 23-18. Nikolic finished the set with an attack at 25-21. Glinka contributed seven points in the second set as her team totaled three blocks and three aces.
VakifBank TTelekom started the third set with a 3-1 margin after a Fuerst attack, then expanded the margin to 5-2 following a Sollys Nestle attack error. Glinka served an ace out of a timeout to increase the advantage to 6-2. Fuerst blocked down a Sollys Nestle attack, who then hit wide to yield a put VakifBank TTelekom up 8-3 at the first technical timeout. Sonsirma slammed an attack down the right side to advance VakifBank TTelekom to an 11-6 lead. Sollys Nestle knocked off two points from the deficit at 12-9 after consecutive VakifBank TTelekom attack errors. However, attacks by Glinka and Fuerst and a bad set by Sollys Nestle allowed VakifBank TTelekom to regain a six-point edge at 15-9. Almeida sliced the deficit to 16-13 with a block causing VakifBank TTelekom to call timeout. Fuerst served two aces around a Glinka attack and Sollys Nestle attack error to yield a 20-13 VakifBank TTelekom advantage. Sollys Nestle continued to battle and closed to 21-16. VakifBank Telekom closed out the set at 25-19.
