Team profile
"Rabita BAKU†volleyball team was established in 2004 and immediately made an impact on the Azerbaijani National League, taking silver in their first two years before sealing the crown for four years running from 2006-2010.
Their first season in the CEV Challenge Cup, in 2007, was also successful as they reached the quarterfinal stage, a feat they repeated the following year before finally taking bronze in their 2009/10 campaign.
This meant they moved onto the Champions League and, astonishingly made the final four where they stunned three-times Italian Champions Scavolini Pesaro in the semi-final to make final, the first wildcard team to do so in the history of the tournament.
Coach profile
Serbia’s Zoran Gajic will lead Rabita Baku into the Club World Championships this year on the back of a distinguished playing career which includes a gold medal from the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, a 2001 European Championship and a World Championship silver medal.
After many years playing, Rabita Baku is Gajic’s first coaching job, and he has taken to it like a duck to water.
