Doha, Qatar, October 14, 2011 – Trentino Diatec Trento’s Osmany Juantorena has been named the most valuable player of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship after leading his squad to the tournament title for the third consecutive year in Doha, Qatar.
Juantorena, who also won the award at last year’s event, finished tournament ranked sixth overall in scoring with 65 points (54 spikes, 4 blocks, 7 aces). He was award the Best Spiker award after converting 54 of 98 attacks for a 55.1 percent with only 15 faults.
Trentino Diatec produced two other post-tournament honors. Matey Kaziyski earned Best Server with 0.50 aces per set, while Raphael Viera de Oliveira earned Best Setter with 6.39 running sets average.
Maxim Mikhaylov of Zenit Kazan earned the Best Scorer honor after helping his squad to the bronze medal. He totaled 100 points on 85 spikes, 7 blocks and 8 aces. Russell Holmes of runner-up KS Jastrzebski Wegiel earned Best Blocker after averaging 0.70 blocks per set. Sesi Sao Paulo’s Sergio Dutra Santos earned both Best Receiver and Best Libero as he held a 69.4 efficiency percent with 80 excellent receptions on 108 attempts. He totaled 7.45 excellent receptions and digs per set in being named Best Libero.
