Doha, Qatar, October 11, 2011 – Poland’s KS Jastrzebski Wegiel captured Pool A of the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 win over Canada’s Trinity Western Spartans Vancouver on Tuesday at Doha, Qatar.
KS Jastrzebski Wegiel Captain Bartman Zbigniew: Today's game was very difficult for us. Great defense from Trinity. We're obviously happy with this victory. It was our goal to win all matches, if possible. And it is still our goal, but we have some tough games in front of us. We are preparing very hard for these games and are hoping to win at least one of them.
KS Jastrzebski Wiegel Coach Lorenzo Bernardi: First of all I would like to thank, but also congratulate the Canadian team. It's still a very young team, which faced several great opponents, but fought for every ball. I wish them good luck for the future. I'm very happy with this victory. It was very important for us. We still haven't won anything yet, but I think we are ready to play against the strongest teams in the world.
Trinity Western Spartans Vancouver Captain Rudy Verhoeff: As our last match, we're a little disappointed. We were too sloppy in the easy plays. The average age of our team is five years younger than the rest of the teams participating in this competition. We're very happy to have had this opportunity and it gave us a clear view on where we need to be and what we need to work on. Overall we have learned a lot and this competition has been a great experience.
Trinity Western Spartans Vancouver Coach Ben Josephson: Today was another tough match. Another great team across the net. You could see the difference in the chips, but we did good on our blocks. We are very excited that our younger players had the opportunity to play against such teams. The biggest lesson for them was that every skill takes such care. Here every serve, every pass has a purpose. It's good that we have some video material we can show our boys and can work with.
