Doha, Qatar, October 9, 2011 – Brazil’s Sesi Sao Paulo earned a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 victory over Qatar’s Al-Arabi Doha on Sunday evening in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship being held in Doha, Qatar.

Sesi Sao Paulo’s victory came in their first match of the tournament, while Al-Arabi Doha fall to 1-1 during the group action.

Wallace Martins scored 16 points to lead Sesi Sao Paulo, while Murilo Endres earned 11 points. Lukasz Kadziewicz totaled 14 points in leading Al-Arabi Doha, while teammate Christian Pampel added 12 points.

Al-Arabi Doha held a 10-5 block advantage, but their 32 errors stopped many chances of building momentum.

Sesi Sao Paulo return to action on Oct. 10 against Egypt’s Al-Ahly Cairo, which his 0-2 in the tournament. Only the top two teams in the two four-team pools advance to the semifinal round.

Sesi Sao Paulo started the first set strong with a 4-0 lead as Al-Arabi Doha committed errors. Sesi Sao Paulo jumped the lead to 12-5 with five straight points highlighted by a Cruz Miranda ace and Al-Arabi Doha committed their sixth error of the set. Sesi Sao Paulo reached the second technical timeout with a 16-9 advantage. Al-Arabi Doha stayed close the rest of the set but could not come away with the victory as Sesi Sao Paulo won 25-20. Sesi Sao Paulo’s Wallace Martins scored a team-high seven points in the opening set to offset the four blocks and six overall points by Al-Arabi Doha’s Lukasz Kadziewicz.

Sesi Sao Paulo earned an 11-8 advantage on a Santos Junior ace after Al-Arabi Doha stayed close in the early stages of the second set. Out of an Al-Arabi Doha timeout, Sesi Sao Paulo increased their lead to 13-8 on the 16th error of the match by Al-Arabi Doha and Martins’ spike. Kadziewicz slammed an overpass for a point closing the deficit to 14-11. Pampel served an ace move Al-Arabi Doha to within to at 15-13. Sesi Sao Paulo regained their four-point cushion at 17-13 following a bad set of Pampel. Murilo added to Sesi Paulo’s lead with a point at 22-17. Cruz Miranda hit an attack off the Al-Arabi block for the set winner at 25-20. Through the second set, Al-Arabi Doha committed 22 errors.

After the third set was tied at 4-all, Sesi Sao Paulo rattled off three straight points for a 7-4 advantage. Vlam put up a block to move Al-Arabi to within one at 8-7. Al-Arabi Doha leveled the score at 14-all after a Sesi Sao Paulo attack went long. Santana allowed Sesi Sao Paulo to increase their lead to 17-15 with a block. Martins combined with Santana on a double block to extend the lead to 20-17. Sesi Sao Paulo reached set and match point at 24-21 via an Al-Arabi Doha service error, their 32nd error of the match. Murillo ended the match at 25-22 on a sharp cross-court winner.
