Doha, Qatar, October 11, 2011 – Italy’s Trentino Diatec Trento stopped Qatar’s Al-Arabi Doha 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 on Tuesday in a Pool B match of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship at Doha, Qatar.
With the victory, two-time defending champions Trentino Diatec improved to 2-0 with six points and earned a spot into the semifinal round on October 13. Before the semifinal round, the club will conclude pool play against Brazil’s Sesi Sao Paulo (2-0, 6 points) in a battle of undefeated teams. The winner of Wednesday’s pool match will play Russia’s Zenit Kazan (2-1, 7 points), while the loser will face Pool A winner KS Jastrzebsi Wegiel (3-0, 8 points). Al-Arabi Doha end the tournament with a 1-2 record.
Matey Kaziyski sparked Trentino Diatec Trento with 14 points, while Emanuele Birarelli added 11 points. Christian Pampel paced Al-Arabi Doha with 12 points.
Trentino Diatec held a 10-2 service ace advantage, as well as a 8-2 block margin.

Al-Arabi Doha started the first set with an early 4-2 lead. Trentino Diatec tied the score at 7-all on an ace by Osmany Juantorena. Trentino went ahead 13-12 on an Al-Arabi Doha attack error, then Kaziyski hammered a back-row spike to push Trentino Diatic to a 14-12 advantage. Al-Arabi Doha tied the set at 14-all after Trentino Diatec was called for a net violation. Jiri Popelka slammed a spike past Trentino Diatec to give Al-Arabi an 18-17 advantage. Trentino Diatec answered with three unanswered points to force Al-Arabi Doha to call timeout down 20-18. Trentino Diatec reach set points at 24-20 with a Jan Stokr block and Al-Arabi Doha attack error. Trentino Diatec finished the set at 25-22 on a Stokr spike.
Stokr powered an attack to produce a 3-1 Trentino Diatec lead to start the second set. Al-Arabi Doha tied the score on a Popelka ace. Mitar Tzourits knocked down an Al-Arabi attack to allow Trentino to move in front 6-5. Trentino Diatec established an 11-7 lead going into an Al-Arabi timeout. Juantorena fired an attack past Al-Arabi to increase Trentino Diatec’s lead to 12-7. Emanuele Birarelli served three consecutive aces to the right corner to extend the lead to 16-8 at the second technical timeout. Al-Arabi Doha trimmed two points off the deficit out of the timeout. Trentino Diatec ended the set at 25-15 on Birarelli’s fourth ace of the set.
Trentino Diatec went up 2-0 to start the third set with a Juantorena ace and Al-Arabi Doha error. Kaziyski notched the eighth ace for Trentino Diatec and Lukasz Zygdalo added a spike to increase the lead to 7-3. Kaziyski launched an ace at 15-9 after a Tzourits overpass spike. Trentino Diatec continued their pressure in reaching a 21-14 advantage. Tzourits provided Trentino Diatec set points at 24-17, then Birarelli finished it at 25-17 on a block.
