 Press Release
Trentino show class, Fenerbahce underline credentials

The fans of Trentino have made a long journey to support their favourites in their quest for a second consecutive crown

Doha, Qatar, December 16, 2010 – Defending champions Trentino BetClic made an impressive start to their quest to retain their title at the 2010 FIVB Men's Club World Championship. Bulgarian star Matey Kaziyski and his colleagues were in a class of their own as the Italian team defeated Russia's Dynamo Moscow in three straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 27-25).

If the game – a repeat of last season's CEV Champions League final – was meant to produce a show of Volleyball, the Italians were simply too strong and consistent at the key moments of each set and earned a marvellous win. Their top scorer was Czech opposite Jan Stokr with 16 points while Peter Veres stood out for Dynamo with 12.

Last year's silver medallists, PGE Skra Belchatow of Poland, needed five long and physically demanding sets to edge out Iran's Paykan (24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12) in the day's Pool A match, which proved the most closely fought game so far at these championships. Belchatow have had a busy schedule in the past few weeks and probably their players felt a little bit of fatigue but the Iranians impressed with their solid play and first tempo attacks.

Belchatow captain Mariusz Wlazly was the leading scorer in the match with 19 points while three Iranians contributed 15 apiece for Paykan, though both sides were guilty of a high number of unforced mistakes, equally distributed between the pair (33 for Belchatow and 34 for Paykan).
After struggling to find the right pace and surviving chances for Mirador to claim the opening set, Italy's Foppapedretti Bergamo eventually put on a real Volleyball show against the Dominican team, showing that they could cope with the absence of their captain, Francesca Piccinini.
The women representing one of the most decorated Volleyball clubs of all time edged out Mirador in straight sets (27-25, 25-12, 25-22) to showcase their high ambitions for this tournament. Their leading scorer was Serena Ortolani with 16 points, while Elitsa Vasileva and Iuliana Nucu contributed 13 and 11 respectively.

Turkey's Fenerbahce may have entered the FIVB Women's Club World Championship as a wild card after finishing runners-up in last year's CEV Champions League but they confirmed their credentials by outclassing the strong Brazilian side of Sollys Osasco in straight sets (25-17, 25-23, 25-16) in their opening Pool A fixture. The top scorer in the game was Natalia Pereira for Osasco with 18 points while Eda Erdem contributed 11 for Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce's captain, Cigdem Rasna, said after the match: "We played a very good game and we are happy with the result. We prepared for this match very carefully and I think we have the right potential to win this tournament. We came here with the intention to take the trophy and we want to continue in this same style."
