Captain Kaziyski aims to keep crown

Trentino BetClic's Matey Kaziyski captained his side to the 2009 FIVB Club World Championship crown and the Bulgarian is eager to repeat the feat when he returns to Doha this year

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 6, 2010 - Matey Kaziyski, captain of holders Trentino BetClic, is looking to become the first man to skipper a side to back-to-back FIVB Men's Club World Championships when they begin their assault on the 2010 edition in Doha, Qatar.

The Bulgarian international helped the Italian side win the 2009 tournament and Trentino return this time round with an almost identical squad. "The emotions that we experienced last year, winning the 2009 FIVB Club World Championship were enormous," the wing spiker said ahead of the event, which runs from December 15-21. "Obviously we will try to win again – we will do everything to get to the final."

The defending champions will face Dynamo Moscow of Russia, Drean Bolivar of Argentina and Paul Mitchell of USA in Pool B and the 26-year-old is wary of all three. "(They are) three teams of great merit that will let us immediately get into the rhythm of the tournament," Kaziyski added. "From this point of view, our pool is much harder than last year but this should not be an excuse if we want to confirm ourselves as world champions and we will prove to be superior to any team."

In team manager Radostin Stoytchev, Trentino have a formidable tactician who has also coached Kaziyski at national-team level. For the moment, both men's eyes are firmly set on Doha. As well as Kaziyski, Trentino boast talent across the court, from Cuban spiker Osmany Juantorena to Brazilian setter Raphael, who was named Best Server and Best Setter at last year's tournament. The only new player who was not part of the starting six last year is opposite Jan Stokr, the Czech player having been drafted in following the departure of Brazil's Leandro Vissotto.

Trentino will go into the competition following a near-perfect start in the Serie A1 Italian league where they have collected eight wins in a row and sit top of the table. And despite a mixed start in the CEV Champions League, where they have won one match and lost another, they promise to be a formidable force come their first assignment in Doha against Dynamo Moscow on December 16.
