FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship
Doha, Qatar
15 - 21 December 2010

 Press Release
Opportunity knocks for Russian wildcards

Dynamo Moscow will arrive at the 2010 FIVB Men's World Club Championship as wildcard entries

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 1, 2010 – The 2009/10 season was a relatively successful one for Russian men's club Dynamo Moscow, who won silver in the CEV Champions League – the best result in the tournament in the club's history.

As a consequence of that runners-up finish, the Moscow team were invited, as wildcard entries, to take part in the 2010 FIVB Men's Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar from December 15-21. Their participation will make them the third Russian side to compete in the world's top club competition, following in the footsteps of CSKA Moscow and Zenit Kazan.

The fact the competition was not originally included in Dynamo's plans means that Yury Cherednik's men will warm up for the Doha event with their usual domestic and European engagements: eight games in the Russian championship, another four in the CEV Champions League and three in the Russia Cup. Recent history is not necessarily on their side for in the same period last year, a slump in form brought the Muscovites four defeats in six Russian Championship games.

On the positive side, Dynamo have a leader who can drive them forward in captain Sergei Grankin, who won silver at the 2007 FIVB World League and World Cup for Russia. The importance of a strong performance at the FIVB Club World Championship – where they are in Pool B with Trentino BetClic, Drean Bolivar and Paul Mitchell – cannot be overlooked and that is precisely what Grankin will be demanding of his team-mates.
