FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship
Doha, Qatar
15 - 21 December 2010

 Press Release
Sky's the limit for high-flying Skra, says Nawrocki

PGE Skra Belchatow picked up silver at last year's FIVB Men's Club World Championship and are eager to go one step further this time around

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 29, 2010 – PGE Skra Belchatow coach Jacek Nawrocki offered a cheery "See you in Doha" to his Trentino BetClic counterpart Radostin Stoytchev after the pair shook hands following their CEV Champions League encounter last week.

That the Polish side won that contest 3-0 in Lodz adds weight to the belief that they can achieve big things at next month's 2010 FIVB Men's Club World Championship in Qatar, where they could well meet Trentino again. Nawrocki's charges lost to the Italian outfit in the final of last year's edition, but the coach says they should fear no team at this year's event in Doha which runs from December 15-21.

"I hope that we will be able, at least, to repeat our result from 2009 FIVB Men's World Club Championship, where we qualified for the final," Nawrocki said. "However, I hope we can win this prestigious tournament. We are in very good form now and I truly believe we can maintain it until the end of the year. After such a great match you get a positive boost and start to believe you can beat every team in the world."

Nawrocki can find other causes for optimism closer to home – his team having picked up nine wins out of 10 in their domestic league, the PlusLiga, which they currently top. Even more impressive is their run of straight-set victories in all competitions. "Five matches in the Polish league plus two games in the CEV Champions League without losing any set. It is unbelievable," Nawrocki added. "We could not even dream about such a great sequence of results. However we want to sustain it in December."

The Belchatow-based outfit are on course for a seventh straight title in their domestic league but captain Mariusz Wlazly is determined they shine on the international stage too. "The season will be even better if we qualify for the Final Four of the CEV Champions League and for the final match of the FIVB Men's World Club Championship in Doha," he said. "Last year I was coming back after a serious injury and could not really help my colleagues from Skra in Qatar, but this year I hope to play much more. I really cannot wait for the tournament."
