Team profile

Part of the Irankhodro Cultural and Sport Club, Paykan was established in 1968 and since then has been a stalwart in Iran’s professional Volleyball League.

The last five years have been a blur Paykan fans as they have watched their side pick up the Asian Volleyball Championship five successive times since 2005 and finish a respectable fourth at last year’s FIVB Club World Championship.

Naturally this success has a lot to do with the support the side has, as well as the hardwork and perseverance players, technical crew and coaches put in, making the club one of the best in the region.

Coach profile

Ex-Iran captain Peyman Akbari may have only signed up as Paykan coach this year, but a long career in Volleyball means he brings a great amount of experience to the side.

With over 300 caps for Iran from 1994 till 2008, he is considered one of the most successfully players of his generation.

A former Paykan player, he picked up eight Asian Club Volleyball Championships with the club and is well aware of the legacy they have in Asia.

As well as being coach of Paykan he was selected to lead Iran’s B team in 2010, leading them to the Asian's Middle cup in India and Sheikh Al Rashed cup in UAE, winning every match.
