Team profile

Al-Ahly sporting club have been one of the leading lights in African Volleyball winning the African Nations Championship eight times since its inception in 1981.

The Egyptian side have been regulars in many international tournaments and also boast 25 domestic league titles as well as 14 Egypt Cup victories. Additionally, the club often provide the backbone for the national side with nine players currently turning out for their country.

From 2009 the team has started to reap the benefits from numerous youth and junior programmes, with many youngsters now breaking into the regular side.

2010 was a bumper year for the team as they completed and African Grand Slam, winning the Egypt Cup, Egypt League, Arab World Cup and the African Championship winning an incredible 60 games out of 60 in all four tournaments, firmly cementing them as one of the best teams in the world at the moment.

The discipline installed into players at the club has proved to be one of the main factors of Al-Ahly’s success.

Coach profile

Ibrahim Fakhr Eldin has been coach of Al-Ahly since 2009, returning to the club he started his coaching career with in 1982.

In total the 56-year old has won eight African Championship titles with the side, as well as six Egypt League’s, three Egypt Cup’s and one Arab Championship.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, Eldin was a player for Al-Ahly’s youth team but injury caused him to retire in 1981.

Outside of the club, he has enjoyed success with the Egypt national team, taking them to the 1999 FIVB World Cup and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
